The Volkswagen Jetta vs. Leading Competitors

The Volkswagen Jetta vs Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla

Here at Clay Cooley Volkswagen of Richardson we want our customers to get the best deal possible on the new car they love. With so many vehicles out there to choose from, sometimes things can get misconstrued in all of the information being thrown at you. We know that shopping for a new car can sometimes feel like you're writing a report with all of the comparing and contrasting that it takes to find the perfect vehicle, but we're here to tell you that it doesn't have to. We try to provide our customers with the most information possible surrounding our vehicles and how they stack up to the competition, which is why we're going to do the comparison for you so you don't have to. We are going to demonstrate a few ways that the Volkswagen Jetta offers more than the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

Volkswagen Jetta vs. Toyota Corolla

  • The Jetta offers better fuel economy than the Corolla does. The Jetta boasts an impressive 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, while the Corolla only offers 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
  • The Jetta is equipped with a more powerful engine. The 1.4-liter turbo engine exerts an impressive 150-horsepower and 185 pounds of torque compared to the Corolla which only has 132-horsepower and 128 pounds of torque.
  • Although the Jetta is in the Compact car segment and the Corolla is in the midsize segment, they offer almost identical dimensions, although the Jetta is slightly longer, and has a larger trunk volume by 2.7 cubic feet.

Volkswagen Jetta vs. Honda Civic

  • The Jetta offers a more sporty engine and driving experience. The 1.4-liter turbo engine is lacking 8 horsepower compared to the Civic, but it makes up for it by offering 184 pounds of torque vs 138 pounds of torque in the Civic. While it is a close comparison, the Jetta's turbo engine is the difference maker.
  • Just as was the case with the Corolla, the Jetta is slightly larger than the Civic in overall length, front and rear headroom, and trunk volume, despite being classified in a smaller class than the Civic.
  • The Jetta offers a uniquely European and ergonomic styling which isn't present in the Civic.
  • Lastly but certainly not least, the Jetta has a lower starting MSRP than the Civic does. With a starting price of $17,680 compared to $18,640 in the Civic.
